Mark your Calendars for Campbellsville and Taylor County Kentucky Adventures in 2025

Written by Cathy Peabody, Content Developer, CVB Digital

With winter temperatures and icy cold weather tempting you to burrow under a pile of quilts before a crackling fire, why not book a cabin, cottage or a vacation home around beautiful Green River Lake, just outside Campbellsville in Taylor County, Kentucky. Bundle up and explore trails surrounding the lake or Historic Tebbs Bend Battlefield or around the 200 year old Homeplace on Green River. Or stay inside and dream of warmer weather and make your plans for a fun year of outside adventures, exciting events, and enjoying the charm of this beautiful Central Kentucky town…Campbellsville!

Take a Scenic Barn Quilt Driving Tour

Speaking of quilts, March 15 is National Quilting Day, celebrating quilt makers and enthusiasts everywhere. Kentucky is known for its heritage of quilt making and the labor of love and skills they represent. Campbellsville and the countryside in surrounding Taylor County are dotted with colorful barn quilts—each a unique design inspired by the traditional woven fabrics and colorful quilt patterns painted on or attached to barns or other farm buildings. Take a scenic drive along beautiful Kentucky pastures and fields and catch the excitement of spotting a barn with original artwork.

While hunkering down inside, now’s a good time to think ahead to warmer weather and your family’s fun and adventures in 2025. Kentucky is known for so many attractions and outdoor adventures, and Campbellsville is right in the middle of it all.

Small Town Charm with lots of history

Start with a walking tour of Historic Downtown. Campbellsville is a 200-year-old city listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In the downtown historic district you’ll find century old brick, stone and iron facade buildings that now are the homes of charming boutiques and shops, a variety of coffee shops, pubs and microbreweries and plenty of places for dining. In fact, Kentucky Living Magazine viewers named Brothers Barbecue the best place for barbecue in 2024!

Just outside downtown Campbellsville lies Tebbs Bend Battlefield. The Battle of Tebbs Bend took place on July 4, 1863, and is considered one of the Civil War’s remarkable small victories. A three-mile driving tour describes the events of the battle and the strategic moves of Confederate leader John Hunt Morgan in this decisive battle. Be sure to stop by The Toll Gate House at Tebbs Bend which serves as a transportation museum, featuring photographs of Taylor County toll houses, toll keepers, and historical toll rates dating back to the 1800s.

Adjacent to the Tebbs Bend Battlefield Nature Trail is The Homeplace on Green River a 200 year old continuously working farm originally built in 1803. Sitting on 227 acres, The Homeplace has been designated as Kentucky’s Outdoor Classroom as an educational farm and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Enjoy nature.

Campbellsville is a designated Kentucky Trail Town so named for its proximity to trails and places where you can find supplies, guides, lodging, places to eat and most of all friendly people. More than 50 miles of hiking, biking, horseback riding and water trails are accessible from Campbellsville. After your outdoor fun, you’ll find a great selection of places to dine and unwind, charming shopping and boutiques…something for everyone.

Nearby Green River Lake State Park was named the Best Camping or RV Spot, Best Public Hunting and Fishing Area and Best Water Tourism spot by readers of Kentucky Living Magazine 2024. For outdoor enthusiasts, there are endless opportunities for outdoor fun. Some of the best fishing in Kentucky is at Green River Lake with guides available to help you find the best fishing spot and it is the host of annual fishing tournaments.  For camping, boating, swimming, fishing, paddling and other water sports, look no further than Green River Lake State Park. Campbellsville is just moments away with dining, places to stay and even a little night life.

The best July 4th Celebration in Kentucky.

Now in its 49th year, Campbellsville is the home to one of the largest Fourth of July celebrations in Kentucky. Six days of music, food, parades, shopping, vintage cars and all kinds of entertainment and of course a fabulous fireworks display. Put this on your calendar now because you don’t want to miss this!

A side (trip) of Kentucky Bourbon

Campbellsville is close to several Bourbon distilleries like Markers Mark in Loretto and Limestone Branch Distillery, home of Yellowstone Bourbon, in Lebanon, and is only a short drive to other famous distilleries on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.

Campbellsville is also only a short drive to favorite Kentucky destinations:

  • Abraham Lincoln’s birthplace in Hodgenville
  • Just over 80 miles to Louisville and the Kentucky Derby and to Lexington and its horse racing heritage
  • Just an hour to Mammoth Cave National Park

So, while you are tolerating cold winter days, fill your calendar with fun and adventures ahead.  Campbellsville, Taylor County, and Green River Lake Ky are easy drives from all directions.

Lexington KY — 83 miles

Louisville KY — 85 miles

Nashville, TN — 134 miles

Cincinnati OH — 163 miles

Indianapolis IN — 200 miles

Atlanta, GA — 320 miles

Put yourself in the middle of everything you love about Kentucky!
